Wong Inn

Wong Inn is a small Chinese takeaway on Measham Road in Oakthorpe, one of the ex-colliery villages east of Donisthorpe on the Leicestershire-Derbyshire border. It sits next door to the village shop and runs as a fast-turnaround kitchen — orders typically through in about fifteen minutes from a small open-plan unit where customers can see the cooking.

The menu runs the British-Cantonese list — sweet-and-sour, chow mein, foo yung, chop suey, satay and curry-sauce mains, plus chef's-special set meals — with the usual rice and noodle sides. Long-running Yelp reviews pick out the special fried rice and the chow mein as the strongest items, with the comment that the cook sends them out in generous double-container portions. The shop has a 4.0 score on the local listings, though the review base is small.

It is a phone-and-collect operation for the most part; the catchment is the immediately surrounding villages — Oakthorpe, Donisthorpe, Albert Village and Measham. There is no sit-in. As one of only a handful of village takeaways out on this stretch toward Ashby-de-la-Zouch, it picks up regular-order trade from the surrounding housing.
