About China Town
China Town sits on the Newhall stretch of High Street, the main road that climbs north out of Swadlincote toward Burton. It is one of two long-standing Chinese takeaways in this village, and the one that locals on the Google and Yell write-ups most often pick out for "kind and friendly" service and fresh, made-to-order cooking.
The menu is the British-Cantonese list — crispy aromatic duck, salt and pepper chicken, sweet and sour, chow mein, satay, foo yung and the usual chef's-special set meals — with a small English section of fried chicken, burgers and chips for households ordering a mixed bag. It runs as an evening kitchen, with a single late-finish on weekends, and most orders are phone-and-collect into Newhall and the Stanton estate.
South Derbyshire District Council inspected the kitchen in May 2024. There is no sit-in seating; the shop is a small parade unit with a service hatch, fitted out for fast turnaround. For households along the Newhall-Stanton stretch it functions as the local regular Chinese — the menu is not unusual, but the food comes out hot, the portions are generous and the staff are remembered as a pleasant part of the order.
