New King Wah is a Chinese takeaway on Princess Street in Church Gresley, the village immediately south of Swadlincote that runs into Castle Gresley along the old colliery road. It scored a 5 (Very Good) from South Derbyshire District Council on the April 2024 hygiene inspection, and reviewers on Tripadvisor regularly name it as the best Chinese takeaway in South Derbyshire — a strong call given the cluster of competitors a short drive away in Swad town centre.
The kitchen runs the British-Cantonese list — crispy duck pancakes, salt-and-pepper starters, sweet and sour, chow mein, foo yung, satay, chop suey, curry-sauce mains in chicken, beef, pork and king prawn — with chef's special set meals and a small English section. There is a clear vegetarian list which the Tripadvisor reviewers single out.
It runs as an evening-only shop, closing Mondays, with a fast-turnaround kitchen the reviewers describe as "efficient and speedy" whether dining in, collecting or ordering delivery. Fabulous food - cannot get enough. Especially their pancake rolls - to die for.
