New Taste is a Chinese takeaway on Derby Road in Heanor, a short walk south-west of the Market Place on the road that leads down towards Langley Mill. It is a small independent shop rather than a chain operation, with reviews suggesting a Tripadvisor ranking of around seventeen of the twenty-five restaurants in Heanor — mid-table rather than a Heanor headline act.

The menu is a long Cantonese-takeaway sheet — appetisers, soups, spare ribs, salt-and-chilli dishes, crispy chicken and beef, roast pork, king prawn, roast duck, omelettes, foo yung, fried rice, chow mein and vermicelli sections — with a separate chip-shop side covering battered fish, sausages and chips for households that want both cuisines on the same order. Set meals are sized for one or two. The minimum order on delivery is ten pounds.

It trades to the standard five-to-eleven evening pattern and to the Derby Road residential corridor. For that side of Heanor it is the closest Chinese; the central-Heanor shops carry stronger reviews.
