Happy Chef

Happy Chef is the long-running Chinese takeaway on Red Lion Square in central Heanor, in the small square that runs off the Market Place. It sits a couple of doors from Tandoori Spice and trades to the same central-Heanor patch but with a Cantonese-takeaway sheet rather than a curry-house menu.

The kitchen runs the standard Cantonese-takeaway list — sweet and sour, kung po, satay, chop suey, foo yung, chow mein, fried rice — with a populated house-special section that includes the Tin Yon Chicken, Flying Dragon, satay chicken on skewers, sesame prawn toast and crispy aromatic duck. Set meals are sized for one or two. Delivery covers Heanor, Loscoe, Langley Mill, Marlpool, Codnor, Cross Hill and Aldercar — a broader radius than most of the central-Heanor Chinese shops.

The shop runs its own ordering site and also takes orders by phone and over the counter on Red Lion Square. For central Heanor it is the closest Chinese to the Market Place, and the regulars stick with it for the speed of the turn-round on collection.
