About New Loscoe Chinese Takeaway
New Loscoe Chinese Takeaway is the long-running Cantonese shop on Heanor Road in Loscoe, the small adjoining village just north of Heanor that was D H Lawrence's childhood school catchment. It is a small, slightly unassuming-looking shop — reviewers regularly tell prospective customers not to be put off by the exterior — that has built up a thirty-year-plus regular trade on the strength of the cooking.
The menu is the conventional Cantonese-takeaway list — sweet and sour, kung po, Szechuan, Cantonese-style, chow mein and a separate Peking-duck and house-special section running through Happy Family, Four Seasons and Happy Paradise. The shop does not deliver — orders are phoned in for collection from the counter only, which is part of what keeps the prices honest. The shop is closed on Sundays.
Reviewers consistently rate the food among the better Chinese takeaways in the Heanor and Loscoe area, and several mention using the shop for decades. For the Loscoe side it is the obvious neighbourhood Chinese; the collection-only model is the only constraint.
