About Bengal Spice
Bengal Spice has been part of the central Welling Indian-restaurant scene for more than twenty years, sitting near the eastern end of the Bellegrove Road parade between the small green of Danson Park and the High Street junction. It is one of the longer-trading dining rooms in the south-east-of-the-river curry circuit, and the family running it markets it specifically on healthy cooking — reduced ghee, fresh marinades and emphasis on grilled tandoori dishes rather than the heavy creamy curries that the wider British-curry-house format leans on.
The menu runs the standard north-Indian and Bangladeshi British-curry-house repertoire — tandoori starters from the clay oven, traditional curries graded from korma through to madras and vindaloo, balti and karahi dishes, biryanis, fish specials and a long vegetarian board — with house specials and chef's recommendations sitting alongside. The restaurant is fully licensed and air-conditioned, with a separate sit-down dining room and a takeaway counter, and offers free home delivery within three miles. Closed on Mondays — typical for an evening-only curry house running across the week — with Sunday a long lunchtime-and-evening session and Tuesday to Saturday evening-only. Reviews on the major aggregators settle in the upper-good range, with regulars referencing the same chefs and waiters over many years.
