Wellcome Chinese Take Away

Wellcome Chinese is one of Annan's long-standing Cantonese takeaways, set on Church Street a short walk from the historic centre of the Solway market town — the place Thomas Carlyle attended Annan Academy and where the old stone harbour at Annan Waterfoot still marks the river mouth. The shop has changed hands and signage over the years (more recently trading under the name Lucky Date at the same address) and remains in the same family-run Chinese-takeaway model.

The menu is a broad British-Cantonese list — chow mein, fried rice and noodle dishes, the usual curry, sweet-and-sour, black-bean and satay sauces over chicken, beef, pork and king prawn, with set meals for one and two that pair starters and mains in fixed bundles. Crispy aromatic duck, salt-and-pepper dishes and the curry sauces come up regularly in reviews.

The shop runs as a collection-and-delivery takeaway rather than a sit-down restaurant, and serves the Annan, Brydekirk and Eastriggs catchment in the early evening through to late.
