The Grand Belper

The Grand Belper is an Indian restaurant on Strutt Street in central Belper, set just below the historic North Mill complex that gave the town its UNESCO World Heritage status. It is now widely traded as Praan and is one of the strongest-reviewed Indian operations in the town — over four hundred customer reviews on Restaurant Guru sitting at a 4.5 Google rating, and over nine hundred Just Eat reviews running near full stars.

The kitchen runs the long British-Indian curry-house menu — madras, tikka masala, dhansak, jalfrezi, garlic chilli specials and a tandoori starter section, with a Wednesday buffet that turns up repeatedly in regulars' write-ups as the best-value night of the week. Lamb tikka sagg wala and the chicken jalfrezi are the dishes most often singled out in praise; tenderness of the meat is a constant in the positive comments.

The negative reviews are scattered and concentrate on the delivery side rather than the dine-in trade — occasional late arrivals and small starter portions. Halal-style kitchen on the meat side. Evening trading, with later weekend closing.
