About Bawtry Fish Bar
Bawtry Fish Bar trades from Scot Lane, the narrow back-street off Bawtry's Market Place that loops behind the High Street shops. It is the town's sole chippy and has been the default fish-and-chips stop for Bawtry residents and the school-run traffic from the surrounding villages for years. The format is traditional: cod, haddock, scampi, fishcakes, jumbo sausages, pies, chicken and the standard chip-shop sides through to mushy peas and curry sauce, all fried to order from the counter. Lunchtime trade comes off the Market Place shops and the nearby surgery; evenings run later, with the shop staying open into the late evening to catch the trade from the Great North Road pubs and Bawtry's well-known restaurant scene when other kitchens shut. Free parking on the Market Place and Scot Lane's short walk-up from the High Street keep it convenient, and the proximity to Bawtry Carr and the racecourse brings in passing trade on race days. Honest, unfussy frying — exactly what a market-town chippy is asked to be — and the only place in central Bawtry to buy a tray of chips on the way home.
