Kitty Fisher's

● Closed Modern European, British

10 Shepherd Market Mayfair, London, West London, W1J 7QF

Kitty Fisher's at 10 Shepherd Market in Mayfair W1 is a small, romantic restaurant in a Mayfair townhouse on one of London's most charming pedestrian streets. Named after Kitty Fisher, an 18th-century courtesan celebrated for once eating a £1,000 banknote spread on a buttered roll — among the most expensive pieces of toast in history. The Nudge calls it "a teeny but romantic space" that "signalled the reinvigoration of the restaurant scene on Shepherd Market." Hardens has consistently praised the cooking as "surprisingly accomplished for such a small restaurant." The menu is wood-fired British seasonal: Brixham hake with lobster bisque, Belted Galloway Chateaubriand for two from the wood grill, whole grilled lemon sole with brown butter and clams, chicken parfait with apple compote. The Bad Kitty cocktail (gin-based) is the signature drink.

Available for dine-in at 10 Shepherd Market, Mayfair W1J. Phone 020 3302 1661. Book ahead. Own website: kittyfishers.com.

Noble Rot Mayfair

● Closed Modern European, Wine Bar

5 Trebeck Street Shepherd Market, London, West London, W1J 7LT

Noble Rot at 5 Trebeck Street in Shepherd Market, Mayfair W1 is the third branch of the celebrated wine bar and restaurant group founded by magazine publishers Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew. Hot Dinners describes it as "proving that dining in Mayfair doesn't have to be stuffy." The menu is designed by head chef Adam Wood alongside Stephen Harris of The Sportsman in Whitstable — one of Britain's most celebrated seafood restaurants — and features terrines, Cornish day-boat fish and seasonal desserts of great quality. The wine list is one of the most thoughtful in London, with bottles covering every major region and a particular emphasis on natural and biodynamic wines. Hardens calls the group "a slightly mischievous wine-drenched rendezvous." The Mayfair branch opened in 2024 and is the biggest of the three Noble Rot sites.

The Wolseley

● Closed Modern European, Cafe

160 Piccadilly Mayfair, London, West London, W1J 9EB

The Wolseley at 160 Piccadilly in Mayfair W1 is one of London's grandest all-day cafes, operating in the former showroom of the Wolseley car company built in 1921 — a spectacular black-and-gold Art Deco space with soaring ceilings, archways and a 110-cover dining room. Jeremy King and Chris Corbin opened it as a restaurant in 2003, modelling it on the great European grand cafes of Vienna and Paris. Hardens describes it as "a wonderful institution — one of the most reliable and enjoyable all-day restaurants in London." The Wolseley serves everything from breakfast (smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, pastries) to late supper (wiener schnitzel, steak tartare, kedgeree). The afternoon tea is one of the most elegant in London. It is one of very few London restaurants open every day of the year, including Christmas.

Available for dine-in at 160 Piccadilly, Mayfair W1J. Phone 020 7499 6996. Open daily from 7am to midnight. Own website: thewolseley.com.
