About Gurkha Curry Lounge
Gurkha Curry Lounge is Burton-upon-Trent's first and only Nepalese restaurant, on Station Street between the railway station and the Cooper's Square ring. The kitchen runs the standard British curry-house roster but pairs it with proper Nepalese cooking — Himalayan herbs like jimbu and timur pepper, charcoal-grilled momos and gurkha-style chicken and lamb builds that don't exist on the menu of any of the Branston Road competition.
Reviewers — across Tripadvisor, Yelp and the local Nepali-community directory belayat.uk — consistently single out the lamb shank as the standout plate, with the chicken chettinad, the lamb kothey momo and the gurkha curry combinations close behind. The vegetarian section is broader and more thought-through than the average curry house, with a useful gluten-free flag on most of the dal and vegetable dishes.
The dining room is small enough to feel personal and busy enough at weekends to warrant a booking. Hours run through to 11pm on weekdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Useful in central Burton when Manzil Gold round the corner is fully booked, and a genuinely different option from the standard Punjabi-and-Bengali curry shops along the rest of the town.
