About M Manze
M Manze in Peckham SE15 is one of London's great surviving pie and mash institutions. The Peckham shop opened in 1927, founded by Michele Manze himself — the Italian immigrant from Ravello who had already established the original on Tower Bridge Road in 1902. The interior is Victorian and essentially unchanged: white and green tiled walls, wooden pews, marble counter, chilli vinegar on the tables. In 1985 the shop was burned out during the Peckham riots; after a long legal battle it reopened in 1990 and has served around 600 pies daily ever since. The liquor sauce — the pale green parsley sauce made fresh daily from a century-old family recipe — is the defining flavour. One of only three M Manze shops still operating in London, alongside Tower Bridge Road and Sutton.
Open Monday to Saturday at 105 Peckham High Street SE15.
