About Akara
Akara in the railway arches at Borough Yards, 18 Stoney Street SE1 is a West African restaurant from Aji Akokomi, the chef behind Fitzrovia's Akoko. The restaurant is named for akara — the deep-fried black-eyed pea fritters of West African and Brazilian cooking, made from ground beans mixed with onion and spices. At this restaurant the akara fritters are the centrepiece: fluffy-yet-cakey balls delicately fried, split open and loaded with fillings including prawn, ox cheek, mushrooms and scallops, served with psychedelic scotch bonnet sauce. The drinks list showcases West African-inspired cocktails including a notable scotch bonnet cordial. The venue is set within repurposed Victorian railway arches with an impressive mezzanine private dining space above. Time Out and Hot Dinners have both ranked it among the best in Borough.
Available for dine-in at Arch 208, 18 Stoney Street, Borough Yards SE1 9AD.
