About Taco Mazama
Taco Mazama is a Scottish-founded Mexican street-food chain that started in Glasgow before expanding to Edinburgh. The Lothian Road branch is one of three Edinburgh sites, the others being on Princes Street and at Ocean Terminal. Lothian Road sits on the boundary between the West End theatre district and Tollcross, and the branch draws on theatre-goers from the nearby Lyceum and Traverse as well as office and residential trade from the surrounding streets.
The menu is built around the burrito — all the standard fillings, from pulled pork to beef barbacoa, plus a haggis burrito that has become something of a signature. Tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas extend the offering. The haggis burrito turns up in several online reviews as both a novelty and a genuinely enjoyable dish. A burrito-and-beer deal at around £8 represents strong value for a central Edinburgh address. Restaurant Guru shows 262 reviews averaging 3.8 out of 5; quality has been described as variable, with the best visits earning enthusiastic praise and a minority of visits drawing disappointment on freshness.
