Los Cardos is a Fresh Mex takeaway on Leith Walk that has been one of Edinburgh's few independent Mexican options since it opened on the Walk. The menu is focused: burritos, tacos, quesadillas and burrito bowls, with a haggis and steak taco that makes a local nod to the neighbourhood. The hot sauce selection, including a genuinely serious extra-hot option, has been a consistent plus in reviews. Los Cardos won gold in the 2018 Food and Drink Survey for Best Takeaway and Street Food, a result that confirmed the quality it delivers on a menu that keeps things simple. The restaurant is at the north end of Leith Walk, close to Pilrig, and serves both collection and evening home delivery. It is open seven days a week from midday, with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays. For most of its trading life, Los Cardos has been the only real Mexican option on Leith Walk, which in a food street of this length and diversity says something about the gap it fills.
