Bonoful Restaurant

Bonoful has been feeding Portobello from Brighton Place since 2005, making it one of the longest-established Indian restaurants in the suburb. The kitchen cooks Bangladeshi and Indian food in a proper dining room — bright and clean, not a standard takeaway counter — and the menu gives the specials section real ambition: mango chicken, Jaipuri chicken, lamb pasanda and a well-developed vegetarian selection sit alongside the reliable roster of balti, korma and rogan josh. Halal-certified. The twentieth anniversary in 2025 was marked with a free community buffet covered by The Scotsman, with local schools, emergency services and long-term regulars all invited. Manager Sayad Miah noted the event was a way of thanking the neighbourhood for two decades of support. Delivery runs via Just Eat, and dine-in can be booked through OpenTable. The restaurant is five minutes on foot from Portobello beach and a short drive from Brunstane station. Closed Tuesdays.
