About Russells Fish and Chip Shop
Russell's Traditional Fish & Chips has been frying on Second Avenue in Scartho since 1982 and is comfortably one of the most decorated chippies in North East Lincolnshire. The Grimsby Telegraph named it Best Chippy in both 2017 and 2018, and the shop is regularly cited locally as a contender for the best fish and chips in the borough — no small claim in a town where the trade is part of the civic identity.
The recipe is straightforward and held together by sourcing: fish brought through Grimsby's own fish docks, beef dripping for the fry, bread rolls from Old Clee Bakery and meat for pies and burgers from Birketts Butchers. The shop carries a Very Good food hygiene rating and the proprietors put a visible amount of effort into the welcome — the front-of-shop atmosphere is part of the reason a Scartho corner chippy ends up on people's lists from the wider town.
Trade runs through both lunch and evening sittings on weekdays through to Saturday, with closure on Sunday. The shop is set into the small Second Avenue parade alongside Jade Garden, and the two between them are the local catch-all for an evening order in this stretch of older Scartho housing.
