Alla Turca on Pitt Street has held a reputation as Glasgow's leading Turkish restaurant since it opened, with reviewers comparing it favourably to the best of its kind outside Turkey. The meze selection is the recommended starting point — small plates of hummus, stuffed vine leaves, sigara böreği and spiced yoghurts that give a sense of the kitchen's range before the charcoal-grilled main courses arrive. Lamb and chicken shish, adana kebab and whole sea bass cooked over real charcoal are among the frequently praised dishes. The room is well dressed for the price point, with live music on certain evenings. Directly opposite the King's Theatre, making it a natural pre-show option. Sister restaurant Alla Italia operates from the same Pitt Street premises.
