Pakhtoonkhwa Restaurant

Pakhtoonkhwa is an atmospheric Afghan restaurant on Green Street in Upton Park, one of the more distinctive and characterful dining destinations in the E7 area. Londonist recommends it for its solid Afghan food in a genuinely traditional setting: diners can sit cross-legged on cushions and eat from low tables in the Afghan style, giving the restaurant an authenticity and cultural richness that is unusual to encounter on a London high street. The menu is a celebration of Afghan cuisine: chapli kebab -- a large, generously seasoned minced lamb patty garnished with grilled sliced tomato -- is among the signature dishes, alongside the kabuli pilao, Afghanistan's national dish: fragrant basmati rice studded with pieces of lamb, sweet carrots and plump raisins. Other dishes include lamb karahi, seekh kebab, tandoori mixed grill, mantu dumplings and traditional Afghan breads. Halal throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
