Red Camel

Red Camel is an Afghan restaurant on Leytonstone High Road -- described by the Leytonstoner newsletter as "totally un-hyped, if perhaps slightly in-the-know" and one of the genuine foodie destinations on the stretch of the High Road near the Overground. The Leytonstone Guide praises it as "a cosy restaurant serving delicious Afghan food with generous portions" -- the kind of neighbourhood restaurant that builds its reputation quietly through word of mouth among the people who know and love it, without any of the Instagram fanfare that characterises more fashionable openings.

The menu covers traditional Afghan cuisine: the Afghan classics of mantoo (dumplings), bolani (stuffed flatbread), qabili pilau (the fragrant national rice dish with lamb and carrots), chapli kebab, korma and a range of grilled meats and slow-cooked stews. Halal throughout. Generous portions at accessible prices. Open for lunch and dinner daily.
