Meraz

Meraz is a London institution, a small and wonderfully atmospheric Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant just off Brick Lane on Hanbury Street, Spitalfields. Established in 1974 and rated by The Sun as one of the top 12 restaurants in the UK, Meraz has been quietly delighting those in the know for over fifty years. A TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice winner 2025.

Everything is cooked from scratch each morning using fresh spices, high-quality ingredients and traditional recipes. The kitchen produces only a limited number of each dish — once it's sold out, you wait until the next day. Signature dishes include slow-cooked lamb, chicken achari, Sami's lamb, nihari and the lamb tikka biryani served with a side of vegetable curry. Meraz is BYOB (no corkage charged), halal, vegetarian-friendly and offers vegan options. Daily specials are available — ask the waiter. A wonderfully honest restaurant with superb food and very fair prices.
