India Palms

India Palms is the original Glasgow Street branch of one of Dumfries's best-known independent Indian takeaways, trading from a corner unit at the town-centre end of Glasgow Street near the junctions that funnel traffic out towards the A75 west. The business opened in Dumfries around 2008–2009 and has held the same site for the bulk of its life, building a reputation for a fairly long Punjabi-rooted menu cooked to order rather than pre-batched. The kitchen runs a broader-than-average list: alongside the standard curries and biryanis there are dedicated tandoori, seafood, chef's-recommendation and English-style sections, and a parallel pizza and kebab side of the menu introduced for the late-night collection trade. Reviews on TripAdvisor, Just Eat and Foodhub are mixed in the way reviews of a high-volume town-centre takeaway tend to be — strong praise for the pakora, the Ceylon-style heat and lamb dishes, balanced by occasional complaints about wait times when the kitchen is under pressure on Friday and Saturday nights. Collection is the more popular route given the central position; local delivery is also offered. The Lochside branch (listed separately) covers the west-of-river estates while this Glasgow Street shop remains the flagship.
