Canton Express

Canton Express on Nith Place is a small Chinese takeaway in the cluster of independent units just off the foot of Buccleuch Street and a short walk from the Whitesands riverside in central Dumfries. The Nith Place corner is one of the quieter pockets of the town-centre takeaway trade — set back from the busier Friars Vennel parade — and the shop is run as a collection-and-delivery format rather than a sit-in restaurant.

The menu sticks to the British-Chinese template that defines the bulk of small-town Cantonese-style takeaways: chow mein dishes, set meals, sweet and sour, curry-sauce combinations, salt and pepper specials, fried rice and the usual range of starters and prawn-cracker sundries. The operator also trades a St Michael Street branch a short distance away (the two Canton Express shops are run from broadly the same playbook), and Tripadvisor and Restaurant Guru reviews on the Nith Place site are limited but generally positive on consistency. The natural catchment runs into the Brooms Road, Buccleuch Street and St Michael Street housing as well as casual trade from the Whitesands car parks.
