Jade Garden

Jade Garden sits in the middle of Bath Street, the long pedestrianised shopping spine that runs through Ilkeston town centre between the Market Place and the bottom of Pimlico. It is one of the busier independent Chinese kitchens in the Ilkeston area, working off both a daytime lunch trade and a substantial evening delivery round into Cotmanhay, Shipley, Kirk Hallam, West Hallam and Awsworth.

The menu is broader than most local Chinese takeaways. Alongside the expected Cantonese set — sweet-and-sour chicken Hong Kong style, char sui, beef in black bean, foo yung, chow mein and crispy aromatic duck — the kitchen runs a sizeable Thai section, with green and red curries, pad thai and a Thai-style satay that picks up its own following. Spare ribs, salt-and-pepper dishes and the king prawn curries are the items reviewers come back to most often.

Service runs a long evening shift with a short lunchtime opening and a single afternoon break. Just Eat shows around four stars across several hundred orders, and the kitchen has held that consistently. Delivery is the main game, but plenty of Bath Street shoppers still walk in for collection on the way home.
