Taste House Chinese Takeaway

Taste House is a long-standing Chinese takeaway tucked into the parade on Poole Street in Allenton, the residential stretch of south Derby between Alvaston and Sunny Hill. The kitchen runs a familiar British-Cantonese list — kung po chicken, salt and pepper shredded chicken, chicken balls in sweet and sour sauce, chow mein and curry dishes by the box — and the chicken balls in particular come up repeatedly in local reviews as the order most regulars return for. Prices sit at the lower end of the Derby range, portions are generous, and the kitchen leans more towards Westernised crowd-pleasers than the spicier Sichuan end of the menu. It is a collection and delivery operation only — there is no seating — and the shop is cash-friendly, with street parking immediately outside. Hours are evening-only, opening from around five in the afternoon through to half-ten or eleven at weekends, and the shop closes on Mondays in line with the usual Chinese-takeaway pattern. Allenton itself is served by a tight cluster of takeaways around the Osmaston Road junction and Taste House sits a short walk back from that, on the quieter Poole Street side, which keeps it slightly off the main competitive strip and reliant on its own returning customers.
