Spice Of Life on the northern London Road plot in Wilmorton sits a short distance further up the A6 from the sister Spice Of Life shop of the same name, on the older railway-housing stretch of south-east Derby that runs up between Alvaston and Pride Park. The kitchen runs an Indian list with a side-menu of pizza and kebab — a familiar pattern for London Road takeaways — and the curry side covers tandoori starters, balti and karahi pots, masala, korai, biryanis and rice, with a small chef's special section. There is no dining area; the shop is collection and delivery only, evenings, with delivery to the surrounding Wilmorton, Alvaston and Allenton streets. Wilmorton is the older railway-housing area on this side of the A6 — the Baseball Ground, Derby County's home until 1997, stood here — and the takeaway parade has built up along this part of London Road over the last twenty-five years. Prices are at the affordable end and the kitchen turnaround on collection orders sits at the standard 20-minute mark.
