Shalimar Gold

Shalimar Gold has been one of the most recognised Indian restaurants in Derby for the better part of forty years, originally established on Midland Road in the early 1980s and now in a larger Midland Road premises that the operator moved into in 2015. The fit-out is unusually ambitious for the area — a one-hundred-and-thirty-cover dining room laid out for fine dining rather than high-street curry-house service, and one of a small number of UK restaurants running a Bellabot robotic runner alongside the front-of-house team. The kitchen menu leans on the chef-led modern Indian end of the category rather than the Bangladeshi-British staples, with locally sourced produce on the supplier list. The room is set up to handle large bookings, and the location near Derby station makes it a regular destination for visiting business diners.
