Okra is one of the larger Indian fine-dining rooms in central Derby, set in a substantial Friar Gate building at the western end of the Cathedral Quarter. The dining room is laid out for sit-down service rather than the takeaway model — a large room with separate lounge seating, a fully stocked bar and a striking decorative scheme of rich reds, creams and Eastern murals. The menu is built around the kitchen team's regional Indian backgrounds, with the chefs drawing on different regional traditions rather than running the standard Bangladeshi-British template. Pay-and-display parking sits in front of the building and a private car park is at the rear off George Street, which is unusual for a central-Derby restaurant and a regular call-out in reviewer feedback.
