Mumbai Chilli

Mumbai Chilli is the long-standing Indian restaurant on the Stenson Road parade, sitting beside Cavendish Kebabs and the small cluster of takeaways serving the eastern fringe of Sunny Hill and Littleover. The kitchen is built around the Mumbai street-food and traditional-Indian repertoire that gives the restaurant its name, with the owner's background in the Sands Hotel kitchens of Mumbai shaping the menu. Starters lean on samosa, pakora and tandoori work; mains run through karahis, biryanis and the grilled-tandoor list, with a steady vegetarian thali alongside.

The room is small and unflashy from the street — reviewers comment that the front belies the cooking — and trade is split between sit-in evenings, weekday lunch, and a healthy takeaway and delivery operation around the surrounding residential streets. Lunch service runs midday-to-mid-afternoon Monday to Saturday with evening trade through to late, and a shorter Sunday evening sitting.
