Yat Wing

Yat Wing has held the Somercotes Hill site for years, working as the village Chinese in the long terraced run that rises off the A38 towards Alfreton. It's a small-counter operation rather than a sit-down kitchen, and trades the familiar Cantonese set meal book — sweet and sour, kung po, curry sauce, chop suey, fried rice and chow mein — for collection or short-radius delivery.

Somercotes itself is the kind of village where one or two takeaways take the regular weeknight trade and Yat Wing is one of them, alongside the neighbouring Pizza Pan a couple of doors up the hill. It's a steady, no-fuss kitchen rather than a destination — the village uses it as the easy Friday Chinese rather than driving the half-mile down to the larger Classic Canton on Nottingham Road. Cash is still useful here; the kitchen is set up for telephone orders as much as online platforms.
