Mike's Famous Fish & Chips

Mike's Famous Fish & Chips has been frying in the Bucksburn corner of Aberdeen since 1978, and this is the original branch that started it all, now run by the founder's son. It is a proper Scottish chipper at heart, with a menu that stretches well beyond the standard fish supper: think a jumbo haddock supper, a king rib in batter, battered chicken fillets and indulgent extras like pulled pork loaded fries and chips and cheese for when only something hefty will do.

The shop's reputation reaches past the neighbourhood. It was named in the Top 40 of the 2025 National Fish and Chip Awards and the Top 50 of the 2024 FRY Awards, rare company for an independent takeaway. Inspectors have given it a Pass under Scotland's food hygiene scheme, and the counter is used to fielding requests for the gluten-free options the brand has built a name on. Decades in, it remains a familiar stop for anyone after a freshly fried supper on the north-western side of the city.
