Bengal Lounge on Princes Avenue reopened as Banarasi in 2022, rebranding to signal a shift towards authentic Indian street food and grill dishes alongside the more familiar British-Indian menu. The new identity distinguishes itself with street-food starters — chaat, papdi, spiced small plates — alongside tandoori grills, aromatic curries, and the house grill specials that draw customers who would otherwise order a standard balti elsewhere. Banarasi has since won recognition as Best Restaurant in the North 2025, a significant achievement for an independent on Princes Avenue and evidence of the ambition behind the rebrand. Both dine-in and takeaway are available, with an all-you-can-eat format on selected nights drawing regulars from across Hull and beyond. The Princes Avenue location — on one of Hull's more characterful neighbourhood high streets — suits the restaurant's identity: independent, food-focused, and pitched at a market that expects more than a formulaic curry house.
