Shimla Restaurant and Takeaway

Shimla has held its position on Armthorpe's Church Street parade for around two decades — long enough to have become the village's established South-Asian destination rather than just a takeaway counter. The Miah family run the kitchen with more than twenty years behind them in Indian cuisine, and the restaurant was voted number one in the Doncaster Free Press Curry House of the Year poll in 2018 and has carried a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice award. The board runs more than seventy-five dishes — the full traditional curry range from Madras and bhuna through to korma, balti and biryani, plus a tandoori grill section, the chef's specials, and the onion-bhaji and starter category that reviewer photos repeatedly show. The standout dishes that reviewer write-ups pick out include the king-prawn bhuna, the garlic nahari, the sizzler-for-two and the biryani. Wednesday and Sunday banqueting nights run a set menu at a fixed per-head price and pull a different customer base than the standard week. The restaurant operates as bring-your-own-alcohol — no drinks licence on the premises — and accommodates vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free dietary requirements. Dine-in or takeaway, both routes are supported from the same kitchen.
