Lucky Star

The Lucky Star has been the Chinese takeaway for New Edlington for the better part of four-and-a-half decades, run from the small parade on Central Terrace just off Edlington Lane. The kitchen sticks tightly to the British-Chinese template that the village has come to expect — salt-and-pepper chicken and chips, sweet-and-sour pork balls, beef in black bean, curry sauce by the tub and a chow-mein and fried-rice section that doubles as the late-evening staple for households across the estate.

The shop is cash-only, opens for an early-evening service through to mid-evening and is closed on Tuesdays. Reviewers have been split over the years — the long-standing regulars cite the consistency of the salt-and-pepper dishes and the speed of turnaround, while occasional visitors have flagged that the cooking is plain rather than refined. The Food Standards Agency rate the kitchen four-out-of-five for hygiene. There is no sit-in; trade is collection and a limited delivery radius.
