Farm Shop

The Farm Shop is one of the longest-trading independent food businesses in central Doncaster, opened on Printing Office Street in 1956 and still working from the same parade nearly seventy years later. The format has always been daytime sandwiches and counter food rather than evening takeaways — Yorkshire-sourced breads filled to order with cold meats, cheeses and salad, hot sandwiches off the grill, jacket potatoes, soups and a small cake-and-pastry counter for the morning trade.

The shop runs a Monday-to-Saturday daytime schedule built around the surrounding office and retail catchment, and prides itself on locally-sourced ingredients — a positioning that has held up well as central Doncaster's food trade has moved progressively toward chain operators. Its quiet position on Printing Office Street, just behind the busier Baxtergate run, keeps the shop in the natural office-lunch and shopping-trip catchment without competing directly with the chain sandwich operators on the main pedestrianised streets.
