About London
Holborn has historic buildings, museums, art galleries, inns, taverns (like the Staple Inn), markets, theatres like the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane and world famous streets. Holborn was one of the parts of London that escaped the worst of the Great Fire of London in 1666 and so it is better preserved than many historial parts of the city. The church of St Ethelreda in Ely place is more than 700 years old. Charles Dickens lived here on Doughty Street, which is open to visitors. The Old Curiosity Shop (immortalised in Dickens\' novel) is just off Lincoln\'s Inn Fields and is thought to be central London\'s oldest shop. Dr Samuel Johnson, who produced the first English dictionary also lived here on Gough Square. the Four Inns of Court are the centre of the legal world. Lincoln\'s Inn, with its 15th Century lawns and buildings, is especially beautiful.
