Hawksmoor Guildhall at 10-12 Basinghall Street in the City of London EC2 is the Square Mile branch of Britain's most acclaimed steak group. The Nudge: "everything you could want from a City restaurant — convivial, relaxed, but with a noble sheen: oxblood leather chairs, parquet flooring, polished wooden panelling." The restaurant opens for breakfast on weekdays — steaks, kippers and a full English for the City crowd — before shifting to the full Hawksmoor menu. It is a stone's throw from what historians believe may have been the world's first steakhouse, the 18th-century Dolly's chop house. Beef is sourced from Ginger Pig and dry-aged 28-55 days. 160 covers in the restaurant, 75 in the bar, and a 24-seat private dining room for City entertaining.
