Taj Mahal on Norwich Road is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Ipswich, founded in the summer of 1964 and family-run ever since. Over six decades the kitchen has built a reputation as one of East Anglia's most consistent curry houses, earning a place in the British Curry Awards top 100 in 2004 and recognition from Ipswich civic leaders at its fiftieth anniversary in 2014. The menu covers the full range of north Indian and Bangladeshi cooking — tandoori dishes, baltis, biryanis and classic kormas — with the garlic and coriander naan and biryani frequently cited as highlights by long-term regulars.
