Maharani on Norwich Road is Ipswich's most decorated Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant, founded by Manik Miah in 1993 and a multiple award winner including the East of England prize at the Bangladesh Caterers' Association awards and a place in the UK's top 100 curry houses. Manik Miah himself has received a Lifetime Achievement award at the Tommy Miah International Indian Chef Awards, only the second person in the UK to do so. The kitchen offers 170 dishes — Jalfrezi, Vindaloo, traditional Bangladeshi curries — without compromising on whole spices. The signature Handi Chicken arrives at the table in a small charcoal pot, aromatic and creamy. Lamb biryani with generous portions of tender meat and chicken tikka cooked with green peppers and brown onions are consistently praised in reviews. Halal certified.
