Peckish

Peckish is a long-running daytime sandwich shop on Horninglow Street, a few minutes' walk from Burton-upon-Trent railway station and the Cooper's Square side of the town centre. It's firmly aimed at the weekday office and trades crowd — open from breakfast through to mid-afternoon, Monday to Friday, and closed at weekends — making most of its money on hot rolls, made-up sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and salads.

The corporate buffet side is the other half of the business: platters of finger sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiches and fruit for offices around the station and Horninglow corridor, ordered ahead by phone for collection or delivery. Regulars rate it on Facebook and Restaurant Guru for the size of the fillings — proper chunky bacon, real cheese, generous tuna and sweetcorn — and for the friendly counter service.

It's a small independent shop with simple decor and a quick queue at lunchtime; not an evening or weekend takeaway, and not a sit-in cafe in the gastropub sense, but a reliable lunch run for anyone working in this side of central Burton.
