Mauby

Mauby at 1 Harefield Road in Brockley SE4 is one of South London's most acclaimed restaurant openings of 2024. Daniel and Heleena Maynard — with Barbadian and Jamaican heritage — opened it in summer 2024 in a former fish and chip shop, following successful crowdfunding. Jay Rayner reviewed it in the Observer (November 2024), praising the "short, impressively cheap menu of small plates" in a "mellow and bubbling" space: "the sort of comfort food that would make any bad day better." Jimi Famurewa (Evening Standard, September 2024) called it "an immensely likeable slice of British-Caribbean cool." Time Out praised it; The Infatuation featured it; Hardens reviewed it. Named for the Caribbean soft drink made from tree bark, the menu is 100% gluten-free and changes seasonally. Signature dishes from the menu include jerk chicken thigh, stewed kidney beans and seasonal small plates. The cocktail list includes the house Mauby serve made with Bajan Cockspurs rum.
