Alcedo Bistro and Bar is a family-run European restaurant and bar at 237 Holloway Road, widely regarded as one of the finest restaurants on the road and a genuine neighbourhood gem. Thatsup.co.uk includes it in its January 2026 guide to the best restaurants around Holloway Road: "Alcedo has been on Holloway Road for years, serving a menu of Italian dishes built around Roman-style pinsa with both red and white bases -- it's the sharing plates that people tend to rave about." Minors and Brady call it "a firm local favourite regarded as something of a hidden gem." Owner Angel, who runs front-of-house, was formerly at Le Caprice and The Ivy.

The menu blends European and Mediterranean cooking with Latin touches. Sharing plates and starters include Roman pinsa, burrata with anchovies, baked mussels, cured meats, crostini and cheese. Heartier dishes include pasta, lamb koftas, bresaola with beets and horseradish, and grilled fish and meat specials from the kitchen. A few outdoor tables are available when the weather cooperates.
