About Hong Kong Restaurant
Hong Kong Restaurant is a Cantonese restaurant on Upper Street in Islington, recommended by Time Out and The Infatuation as "Upper Street's answer to a quick, casual Cantonese dim sum fix." Time Out describes a restaurant that "goes big on crowd-pleasing dishes from regions across China, though the focus is firmly on Guangzhou (Cantonese)": the familiar menu of Singapore fried noodles, chow mein, kung po chicken and roast duck sits alongside more adventurous dishes including stir-fried scallop with broccoli and black truffle, abalone with chicken soup, grilled lamb chop with honey and pepper sauce, and venison and green asparagus with XO sauce. Hot Dinners notes it as a "halal-friendly Cantonese restaurant." Halal throughout; no pork served.
A particularly solid selection of dim sum is available, including har gow prawn dumplings, siu mai, xiao long bao soup dumplings and cheung fun rice noodle rolls. The chef's specials board changes regularly and is worth asking about -- particular highlights include sautéed sea bass fillet with chilli black bean. A striking red and gold facade with a traditional look makes this one of Upper Street's most recognisable Chinese restaurants. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
