About Tempting Tattie
Tempting Tattie is a baked-potato specialist that first opened on Jeffrey Street in 1974, making it one of Edinburgh's oldest independent food shops. Jeffrey Street runs between the North Bridge and the foot of the Royal Mile's Canongate section, a few steps from Waverley Station — a location that has kept steady footfall for half a century. The shop went through a change of ownership and briefly closed before reopening under new management, with the same baked-potato format intact.
The menu builds on the classic jacket potato base with a range of toppings that stretches well beyond beans and cheese: Piri Piri Chicken Mayo, Honey Chilli Chicken, and a vegetarian Falafel, Chickpea and Mint option sit alongside traditional prawn marie rose. The kitchen also serves curry toppings including madras, channa masala, and bhuna, and a selection of samosas. The Edinburgh Fringe comedian Richard Herring is among its most enthusiastic long-term advocates. Delivery is available via Uber Eats; the shop also does sit-in trade.
