Snax Cafe

Snax Cafe sits on West Register Street, a short pedestrian lane running behind Register House and the east end of Princes Street, and has earned a loyal following as one of the most honest breakfast cafés in central Edinburgh. The room is compact and straightforward — this is a working caff, not a café-bar — and the prices are some of the keenest you will find this close to the top of the Royal Mile.

The core of the menu is Scottish breakfast in three sizes, from the standard all-day option to the 'Biggest Breakfast' that runs to link sausage, bacon, black pudding, haggis, tattie scone, fried egg and beans. Breakfast rolls are available individually, with fillings including fried egg and haggis, and the toasted breakfast wrap has developed its own following. Beyond the morning trade the menu extends to burgers, hot ciabattas, baked potatoes, a salad bar and homemade daily specials such as curry and mac and cheese. Vegetarian and vegan breakfast selections are priced alongside the meat options rather than as premium afterthoughts.

The cafe is a daytime operation, useful for anyone heading into or out of Waverley Station a short walk to the east. Coffee runs from flat whites to iced options. Two Edinburgh locations; this is the New Town branch.
