About Pierinos Take Away Food Shops
Pierinos has been serving Leith from Bernard Street since 1983, making it one of the neighbourhood's longest-running family-owned takeaways. Pierino Crolla and his wife Lucia opened the shop on the site of a former baker's, initially trading as the Tally Tower Fish and Chicken Bar — a name that nodded to the Martello tower visible in the docks along the waterfront. The business was rebranded as Pierinos in the early 1990s following a refit, and the shop is now run by Pierino's sons Domenico and Adriano. The menu sits at the natural intersection of Italian-Scots chippie cooking: homemade pizzas and pasta alongside traditionally battered fish and chips, burgers, kebabs and value meal deals. Pierinos has picked up regional and national recognition for fish and chips over the years — consistently well reviewed, frequently cited in Edinburgh chippie round-ups. Bernard Street runs from the Shore to the Kirkgate area, and Pierinos has been part of that social fabric for more than four decades.
