Jade Palace has traded on Dalkeith Road for decades, and its longevity speaks to a settled south Edinburgh following. The Chinese menu stretches from roast duck with Chinese mushrooms and spring onion in oyster sauce through to the full spread of stir-fries, satay dishes and sweet and sour preparations. Salt and chilli dishes — chicken and squid in particular — draw enthusiastic recent reviews, as do the fried rice and chow mein. Some long-standing customers note a change in quality following ownership changes in earlier years, but current reviews are more positive, pointing to generous portions and cooking that hits its marks.
