Saffron

Saffron is the long-running Bangladeshi-and-Indian takeaway on the Wendover Road parade in Messingham, the village edge south of Scunthorpe where the Bottesford and Yaddlethorpe estates give way to the open Lincolnshire farmland. The shop trades alongside Jade Pavilion Chinese and the Mayfair Indian on the same short row — three operators between them covering the village-restaurant cluster for the surrounding Messingham, Bottesford and Yaddlethorpe streets.

The kitchen runs the standard British-Bangladeshi curry-house card — tikka, biryani, balti and tandoori sections; the standard madras-to-korma curry range; the house-special and chef-recommended dishes; vegetable curries and pilau rices; English-style chicken and chip plates for the kids' end; and a small starter list running through bhajis, poppadoms and shami kebabs. The shop sits across the road from the Mayfair Indian which trades a more cocktail-bar dine-in format — the contrast giving Messingham customers both a sit-down restaurant option and the traditional takeaway-collection format on the same parade. Saffron itself is collection-and-delivery only.
