Sunfung House Chinese Takeaway

Sun Fung House is one of the longest-running independent Chinese takeaways in central Grimsby, with the shop trading on Gilbey Road in West Marsh for around 28 years under the same name. The unusually long tenure shows in the format — a classic Chinese-and-English takeaway rather than the slimmer Cantonese-only menu of newer arrivals, with chips, sausages and pies sitting on the same printed list as the chow meins, curries and sweet-and-sour dishes. That hybrid takeaway model was common across the East Marsh and West Marsh in the 1990s and 2000s, and Sun Fung is one of the few that has held its original format.

Trading hours are longer than most of the surrounding shops — the kitchen opens late morning rather than late afternoon, running through to about 10pm Monday to Friday and a little later at weekends, which gives the shop a daytime trade as well as the evening peak. Reviews on Restaurantji and Yelp settle around freshly cooked portions, friendly service and generous serving sizes, and the shop's own ordering site runs alongside its Uber Eats presence. The West Marsh location pulls a delivery reach across the residential streets between the docks and Corporation Road.
